Eligibility Criteria
To apply for the Skilled Independent Visa Subclass 189, applicants must meet the following criteria:
1. Occupation on the Skilled Occupation List (SOL)
Your occupation must be listed on the Medium and Long-Term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL), which includes occupations in high demand in Australia.
2. Points Test
The visa operates on a points-based system. Applicants must score a minimum of 65 points, calculated based on the following factors:
- Age:Maximum points are awarded to applicants aged between 25 and 32 years.
- English Language Proficiency:High scores in English tests such as IELTS, PTE, or TOEFL increase your points.
- Work Experience:Points are given for skilled work experience both inside and outside Australia.
- Educational Qualifications:Higher qualifications such as bachelor’s or master’s degrees are awarded more points.
- Other Factors:Points can also be earned for factors such as Australian study experience, professional year in Australia, and partner skills.
3. Skills Assessment
You must obtain a positive skills assessment from the relevant assessing authority for your nominated occupation.
4. Age Requirement
Applicants must be under 45 years of age at the time of receiving the invitation to apply for the visa.
5. English Language Proficiency
Competent English is the minimum requirement, but higher proficiency scores improve your points.
6. Expression of Interest (EOI)
You need to lodge an Expression of Interest (EOI) through the SkillSelect system, indicating your skills, qualifications, and intent to apply for the Subclass 189 visa.
7. Health and Character Requirements
